Registration for SemiX Annual Summit 2024 is live.
A robust ecosystem of software and e-commerce venture investors and startups exists with money invested and valuations that compare well with their global equivalents. A strong semiconductor engineering community works in MNCs or product engineering services companies. By one measure, 20% of the world’s semiconductor engineers reside in India. However, semiconductor startup activity is far behind similar ecosystems in the USA, Europe, China, and Israel. So, there is work to be done. The good news is that there is a solid entrepreneurial push by semiconductor/deep-tech investors and a few successful startups.
SemiX has a strong interest in helping build momentum around semiconductor entrepreneurship with the following objectives:
Help strengthen the semiconductor startup ecosystem (including financial and corporate investors and startups) that rivals global scale and valuations, focusing on solving complex problems.
Form solid partnerships and alignment with various stakeholders, including investors, startups, industry (MNCs and services companies), and government agencies to drive a common agenda, including addressing challenges faced by semiconductor startups in India.
Establish a successful incubation process working with SINE (IIT Bombay incubator – Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship)
Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), is an umbrella organisation at IIT Bombay for fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing tech start-ups. It administers a business incubator which provides ‘Start to scale’ support for technology based entrepreneurship and facilitates the conversion of research activity into entrepreneurial ventures.
Set up in 2004, it is one of the earliest incubators in academia with a potential to create startups focussing on economic growth, strategic value and social relevance. It gives prototyping grants, provides incubation support to tech startups and also runs accelerator programs in corporate partnership.
SINE has been selected as “Centre of Excellence” by Department of Science and Technology (DST), GOI with funding support to scale up its activities.
SINE provides upto 3 years incubation support to startups from varied technology and science areas. Incubation can be physical or virtual.
